A 100% TRUE STORY
A story of how a single email, sent by me, eventually (key word)transformed into client relationships (which brought me) about
First, I want to talk a little bit about “lagtime” between cause and effect in the patient and client attraction business. It’s probably something you should want to learn more about for sure.
I know that a lot of doctors, maybe you included don’t understand “lag time” when you’re using direct mail & emails.
Well today I’m going to tell you the SECRET.
Pay close attention what I’m about to tell you and etch it in your mind forever.
In my experience, when you’re talking about lag time and direct mail or emails…
it’s a good 6 months, at least before you start to reap the rewards of your efforts.
You start your marketing machine, and within a few months, things
start to happen.
If you’ve done what I’ve told you to do with your emails, or direct mail
you know that this is true.
When I started out, I marketed myself (albeit poorly) pretty consistently.
I didn’t have a lot of money, but I didn’t give up.
If something didn’t work, I’d try something else.
At that time, I sent out hand addressed pitch letters to the world
“announcing” how great I was.
NOTICE the word “I” in that sentence.
If I was sending out letters that told them the benefits and what I was going to do for them, it would have worked.
As time went on, I got clearer and clearer about who exactly I wanted to attract. (I’m still doing that, so don’t think it’s a one time event or decision. For me, it’s been an evolution towards clarity.)
That’s how it should be for you as well.
Now I am naturally fascinated by successful people, especially successful people who care about their other human beings.
So I wanted a way to build relationships with people in a way that didn’t broadcast “I want your money, I’m just like a salesman.”
So I started interviewing people and doctors and learning what it took to get their attention and to be in their face, without them thinking I was in
Example: I sent an email to a woman asking for some time to talk to her. She did some “checking” and, after finding out I probably wasn’t an axe
murderer, she accepted the request to talk to me. To this day, we’re good friends and she raves about what kind of doctor I am and how I can help
save the world.
Only problem was, when I left town, we lost touch, so I dropped the ball and never wrote or called her for about 1-2 years!
A year or two goes by… FAST!
I finally get my act together and started to write again, saying I’m ready to do what we did before. More weeks/months go by. We finally saw each other.
One thing leads to another and what began as a single email turns into an excellent client and a great advocate for my laser work.
When I saw her today, I also saw her daughter, and her two girls.
They have a family of six, and I’m going to be taking care of all of them.
The nice part is, there have already been two referrals in the last two weeks, and I didn’t do anything special, just stayed in touch.
I talk a lot about how I view my way of attracting clients and patients as more of a solar system than some kind of linear marketing funnel.
Most people (unless they are referred) start on the outer edges of this system I’m talking about.
This woman I’m speaking about did.
She was actually a mother of a man I was talking to about a pH machine, before she was a patient and a client. She was a patient for a while on what you might call the “outer orbit” of my solar system.
Just watching, waiting, paying attention to my demonstration.
But now, a few years later, she’s a strong referring advocate of mine, and one that will stay mine as long as I am alive. How do I know that?
Because I stay in contact with her and I do it on a regular basis. You should and could be doing the same.
